Applications Open: RSTMH 2025 Early Career Grant Call

The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) has opened its 2025 Early Career Grant Call, inviting applications from emerging researchers across the globe — including Uganda — who are passionate about advancing global health and tropical medicine.

This is an exciting opportunity for young scientists and early-career public health professionals to take their first step into independent research while making a tangible impact in communities facing the world’s most urgent health challenges.

About the RSTMH Early Career Grant

he RSTMH Early Career Grants are designed to support small-scale, short-term research projects with a focus on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), infectious diseases, and other health conditions of poverty. The grants help emerging researchers build experience, publish findings, and grow their professional networks.

Thematic Focus for 2025:

  • Neglected tropical diseases (e.g., schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis)

  • Malaria, TB, and HIV/AIDS

  • Maternal and child health

  • Zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases

  • Climate and environmental health impacts

  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

  • Mental health in low-resource settings

Who Can Apply?

  • Early-career researchers (within 10 years of their last degree)
  • Applicants must have a clear supervisor or mentor affiliated with a recognized research institution

  • Applicants can be from any country but priority is given to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Uganda

  • Applicants do not need to be members of RSTMH to apply

Grant Details

  • Funding Amount: Up to £5,000 GBP

  • Duration: Projects must be completed within one year

  • Deadline to Apply: April 28, 2025

  • Announcement of Winners: July 2025

Projects can be lab-based, clinical, field-based, or desk-based and should demonstrate a clear potential to contribute to improved health outcomes in tropical and under-resourced settings.
